Natsume Yuujinchou (夏目友人帳) Episode 1

o, I'm thinking of reviewing every anime that I have watched, every single one!! That if I can bear with it. For every post, I'll list items related to the episode. Yeah, such thing like the brief plot of the story, characters involved, and some background information involved. So... the sample list for every episode will looks like this.

Title : The Cat And The Book Of Friends (Jap: "Neko to Yūjinchō" (猫と友人帳))

And, here we go.. the first episode

That's the title template, looks like japanese traditional art work doesn't it?. The episode open by an eerie voice asking to return her name back.

Large sized one eyed youkai. Act pretty menacing at first but later she appears to be not

Of course, at this point viewer will not know what they refer to. The scene changed to Takashi being chased by a youkai. During this time we can see some flash back. He ran away until he reached a temple where he accidentally broke some sort of seal which looked like a rope. A voice out of nowhere come out. Despite a cool entry, something that actually appeared was not. A fat-usually displayed in front of a chinese restaurant waiving hand- kind of cat appeared.

The cat told Takashi a liitle bit about the reason he's being chased and then disappeared. Takashi went back home. He's more like staying in his relative house since his parents is no longer. Outside he was caught by Fujiwara Touko, a very kind and gentle relative of him.

It was obvious that Takashi tried to unveiled the secret that he can see those "things". He couldn't tell the truth. Like people would believe anyway.

Inside his room, the cat from earlier apparently followed him back home and trying to grab the yuujinchou away from Takashi but fail.

It then started introducing himself, referring himself as Madara but later Takashi gave him a daring name "Nyanko". After some chit chat of truth, the youkai from earlier (there's two) sneaked in to his house.

In the critical situation, Madara showed his true form and asked Takashi to gave up the book. Perhaps, seeing Takashi's strong will, he taught Takashi a way to calm the Youkai, that was to return their name. The method of releasing name was reserved only to Takashi, the descendant of Reiko. Being successfully returned the name, therefore he was able to see the memory of the youkai with Reiko.

It was revealed how Reiko got her name in the book. The Youkai was calmed and a tiny bit of info about Reiko is delivered.

You should really watch the anime yourself and you'll understand why the youkai said those words

The episode ended here, with lots of youkai waiting for their name.
